Our Raised Beds Drainage Booster is our tried-and-tested topsoil and compost blend, with 25% washed 2-5mm horticultural grit blended in. It combines the structure of topsoil with the organic matter of compost, designed to improve drainage while supporting healthy plant growth.

 

It works by creating tiny air pockets throughout the soil, allowing water to permeate through far more easily which helps prevent water-logging, while still holding onto the essential nutrients and moisture your plants need. Those same air pockets minimise compaction, giving roots an easier path to grow and stretch. The result is a free-draining mix that doesn't water-log, while providing the extra structure that plants, shrubs and trees need to establish strongly.

 

Ideal for a wide variety of plants, the grit we use is lime-free and washed, making it completely pH neutral, so it improves drainage without altering your soil's balance. This is a practical, ready-to-use solution for improving drainage and growing conditions in one simple application. Recommended for raised beds, borders, and as a free-draining backfill when planting shrubs and trees.
